Newcastle United are reportedly looking to sign Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek before the January transfer window closes.

According to a report from Daily Telegraph, Newcastle United are looking to improve their midfield options. And the Magpies will look to sign the 26-year-old English midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek from Chelsea before the January transfer window closes.

Loftus-Cheek has been an important squad player for Graham Potter this season. And the Chelsea manager is unwilling to lose the versatile midfielder because of the current injury problems at the club. It will be interesting to see if the Magpies can come forward with a tempting offer over the next few days. The Chelsea midfielder has been linked with Leicester City as well.

The Magpies have recently lost Jonjo Shelvey and Bruno Guimaraes to injuries. So Eddie Howe needs to bring in central midfield reinforcements if the Magpies are to continue their impressive form this season.

Newcastle are currently pushing for UEFA Champions League qualification and must look to address their midfield issues this month. The Magpies are likely to be severely weakened without players like Guimaraes. And it remains to be seen whether they can bring in the necessary reinforcements this month.

Loftus-Cheek has been a utility player for Chelsea this season. And after featuring regularly for the Blues, it is unclear if he is keen on moving away from Stamford Bridge in search of regular first-team football. The 26-year-old could be the ideal long-term partner for Guimaraes at the heart of Howe’s midfield.

The versatile midfielder is well-settled in the Premier League and could make an immediate impact at Newcastle. The Magpies could use his physicality and athleticism in the middle of the park. The physically imposing box-to-box midfielder will add presence and defensive cover to the side as well.

Loftus-Cheek is not a key starter for Potter and will likely drop to the Chelsea bench once the preferred first-team midfielders are fit. It makes sense for him to join another club that can give him regular game time assurances and it remains to be seen how the situation evolves.

Newcastle are a club on the rise and they have the finances to put together a formidable squad capable of winning major trophies in the coming seasons. It could be the ideal move for the Chelsea midfielder right now. But recent reports have suggested he wants to remain at Chelsea.
