Leicester City are eyeing a deal for Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek in this winter transfer window.
As per Simon Phillips, Leicester City are interested in agreeing to a deal for Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek. The 26-year-old has been a regular for the Blues this season.
Loftus-Cheek was regarded as one of the best academy products from Cobham but the midfielder has mainly served as a squad player due to his versatility until this season.
He has offered his expertise in a range of positions as he has often been seen playing as a right wingback at Stamford Bridge. The midfielder has the tenacity to match the desired level required in the top flight and given Chelsea’s current crisis he could be an asset.
The player recently returned to the bench for the Crystal Palace clash following an injury setback. Chelsea’s winter outlay has seen them bringing in a plethora of players and they might feel the urge to raise some funds by offloading some fringe players.
The midfielder has a contract until 2024 and this window could be the best time to get a good value for him. Leicester are dangerously hovering around the relegation zone and Brendan Rodgers is under severe pressure to deliver at the King Power Stadium.
The former Liverpool manager is aware of the interest growing around James Maddison and Youri Tielemans. At least one of them could leave in the next two weeks and it will leave the Foxes very thin in the midfield department.
Chelsea tried to include Loftus-Cheek as leverage in the Wesley Fofana deal in the past, but the player refused to join and decided to fight for his place in the starting lineup.
Chelsea will focus on signing at least two midfielders as both N’Golo Kante and Jorginho are expected to leave West London next summer when their contract expires.
Loftus-Cheek wouldn’t want to continue as the second fiddle and might want to rethink his future as a move to Leicester could prove to be pretty viable for him.
