Manchester City are reportedly targeting a move for Ferland Mendy and are ready to offer €60 million for the Real Madrid left-back.

As per a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Manchester City are considering an approach for Real Madrid defender Ferland Mendy. The reigning English champions are expected to undergo a busy summer next time. And they are ready to offer €60 million to sign the Frenchman.

Mendy’s inconsistency has been quite evident as the French defender has been a part of an indisciplined Real Madrid backline throughout this season. His errors cost Los Blancos three points against Villarreal in La Liga, and there have been reservations over his longevity at the Santiago Bernabeu. Recent reports have indicated that Real Madrid are considering selling him.

The 27-year-old joined Real Madrid from French giants Lyon and has had various ups and down in his stint thus far. The player is willing to commit to his long-term future to the Merengues. But a renewal is not on the agenda for the management as of now.

Mendy’s defensive traits have received severe plaudits. But his limitations in the final third have stalled his growth in Spain. And Real Madrid could entertain further offers for the player if he fails to justify his price tag. The player’s situation has captured the attention of Manchester City.

The reigning European champions would open invitations for a sum of €60 million. And Manchester City have the financial power and desire to shell out such a sum. The absence of Benjamin Mendy forced Guardiola to shift between Joao Cancelo, Sergio Gomez and Nathan Ake in the left-back slot. And he will be searching for a permanent solution to his perennial problem.

Over the years, the Manchester City manager has spent millions to sharpen his backline, and the results have been pretty satisfactory. The Citizens are still competing on all fronts. So Ferland Mendy would be able to upgrade himself if he stays on the right path.

Real Madrid do not want to rush towards a decision and have identified Rayo Vallecano youngster Fran Garcia as a suitable replacement. The Spaniard previously failed to make it big in the senior setup and was sold in the summer of 2021. But his performances have attracted attention, and the Spanish giants have a buy-back clause to make themselves accessible for a deal in the near future.
