Manchester United and Liverpool have reportedly turned down the chance to sign Brighton & Hove Albion winger Leandro Trossard.

According to Ben Jacobs, Liverpool and Manchester United have turned down the opportunity to land 28-year-old Brighton & Hove Albion forward Leandro Trossard.

Trossard has been one of the leading lights at the Amex Stadium, with Brighton & Hove Albion in the hunt for a European berth this season. Roberto De Zerbi has made a seamless transition into the setup since the departure of Graham Potter, who has struggled to replicate his charisma at Chelsea.

Trossard’s brilliant showings also got him a call-up to Belgium’s squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. But he did not help the Red Devils’ cause much as his country crashed out from the group stage.

Trossard has continued his progression at the club level. And Tottenham Hotspur have come calling for him to take the player to north London. But Brighton have knocked down Spurs’ advances, as they do not want to lose the player in the midst of the season.

The 28-year-old has not played a single minute in the last two matches, sparking rumours of a possible departure. But De Zerbi recently cleared the air, insisting the player was not risked due to an injury. The Brighton manager also added that Trossard needs to raise his performance levels.

Trossard wants to play for a big Premier League club. But his wish is not going to be fulfilled very soon as it stands. With just six months remaining on his contract, his agent has already offered his client to a number of clubs, including Liverpool and Manchester United. But the two clubs have rejected the oppportunity, despite their need for attacking reinforcements. And Ben Jacobs confirmed the development.

“The first thing to say with Trossard is that he wants a move away, no specific preference and his agent has been working extremely hard to fuel interest. He went to Tottenham, he went to Chelsea, he went to Liverpool, he went to Manchester United and he went to Newcastle United.”

Jacobs continued, “Liverpool and Manchester United dismissed it, even as I understand it got a little bit irritated by how much on the agent’s side was being leaked about interest in his client.”

A player of Trossard’s calibre definitely deserves to play at the highest level. And it remains to be seen whether he gets to qualify in that bracket in near future. For now, Liverpool and Manchester United have turned down the chance to sign the Belgian international.
