Chelsea have entered the chase for Evan Ndicka and will rival Arsenal for the 23-year-old French centre-back, who will become a free agent in the summer.

According to Calciomercatoweb, Chelsea have joined the chase for Evan Ndicka, thus joining Arsenal in the hunt for the 23-year-old French centre-back. The Eintracht Frankfurt defender is heading towards free agency after entering the final six months of his deal with the Bundesliga outfit.

Evan Ndicka could become the subject of a transfer battle between clubs in England and Europe. Several high-profile outfits continue to follow the 23-year-old French centre-back’s case, as he is an attractive target in the current market.

For his relatively young age, the 23-year-old French defender is an experienced head. He has played many seasons at a consistent level for Eintracht Frankfurt, also helping them to UEFA Europa League success last season. The German outfit want to extend his deal, but considering the high-profile interest, the defender may wish to play elsewhere.

Arsenal and Tottenham have an interest, having held talks with the defender. Earlier reports indicated the Gunners had already reached an agreement with the 23-year-old French centre-back. But that may be false news as things stand. Nevertheless, the defender remains a genuine prospect in the window, with many clubs likely to battle for his signature.

Some clubs have tried to get him in January and may have enquired about paying a modest sum in return. As things stand, Ndicka is heading towards free agency and could join a favourable club on a Bosman deal in the summer. Chelsea are in the race as things stand, with Todd Boehly keen to attract more exciting talents to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea recently signed Benoit Badiashile to solve the problematic left centre-back position. After that, they might sell Kalidou Koulibaly and even bring another expensive acquisition in Josko Gvardiol in the summer. However, Chelsea are about to switch their attention towards the other central defensive side.

They have Thiago Silva in the position and signed Wesley Fofana last summer. However, the former Leicester City star is yet to assert himself at the club, having endured a severe injury early in the season. Chelsea want another player there, possibly as a long-term successor to Silva.

Having spent a lot in Boehly’s reign so far, Chelsea might consider the financial aspects of bringing in another player. Ndicka is a good option, as he will become available for free in the summer. However, the Blues have a task to convince the 23-year-old French centre-back that Stamford Bridge is the right place for him amid solid competition for his signature from Arsenal.

Arsenal could resume chasing the defender in the coming weeks once they sort out their January business. However, the race is quite open for the Frenchman, as a move to the Premier League seems likely.
