Wout Weghorst is edging closer to sealing a January move to Manchester United, with both parties confident of reaching an amicable solution.

According to a report by Dutch outlet AD, as relayed by Sport Witness, Wout Weghorst could be on his way to Manchester United sooner than expected as the player has been pushing hard for a transfer.

The Dutch striker is currently on loan at Besiktas. The Clarets do not have a recall clause in the contract leading to utter chaos. The 30-year-old has been an instant hit since moving to Turkey, and Besiktas are reluctant to let him leave so cheaply.

Manchester United have identified Weghorst as their priority target, as they do not have any contingency plan. Compensation should be enough to facilitate a transfer. But it is claimed that a permanent move could be in the offing, with Besiktas set to be richer by getting a 35 per cent cut in the transfer fee.

Besiktas issued a statement on Monday calling out the lies peddling out regarding Weghorst’s transfer. “The claim that there is an exit clause in our player’s contract, stating that his contract can be terminated with a compensation of 2.5 million euros (£2.2 million) in case of an offer from the Premier League, is fictitious.”

“The news that the player in question will leave the team on Tuesday is completely untrue. The initiative regarding Wout Weghorst belongs entirely to Besiktas.” But the 30-year-old Dutch striker is keen on joining Manchester United.

The former Wolfsburg attacker is truly entrenched in his dream move. And he appears to be so excited by the prospect of joining the 20 times champions that he is ready to offer the club compensation out of his own pocket.

Erik ten Hag has already confirmed Anthony Martial’s inability to take the load due to his disruptive season. And Weghorst could offer a whole new lot of dimension to the attacking unit at Manchester United. And according to AD, Manchester United are on the verge of signing the experienced striker.

The 30-year-old Dutch international has an imposing presence in the air, and he is one of the best pressers of the ball, making him a tailor-made present for the Dutch manager. Manchester United United are expected to sort out all the complexities, and Weghorst should be able to don the jersey as soon as possible.
