Manchester United prioritising move for Harry Kane

Manchester United could prioritise a move for Harry Kane if he decides against signing an extension with Tottenham Hotspur.

According to ESPN, Harry Kane remains a target for Manchester United. They could prioritise signing the England captain if he decides against signing an extension with Tottenham Hotspur. The 17-goal Premier League star’s contract expires in 2024, with the striker in a dilemma regarding his future.

Harry Kane may reflect on his career in two possible ways. One is to cherish all the goals he has scored that have taken him closer than ever to becoming Tottenham’s all-time great in front of the net. Second would be the visible lack of trophies during his time in north London.

Kane had the opportunity to change clubs in 2021, but Manchester City could not persuade Tottenham to sell him. Club Chairman showed his ‘hardman’ skills and kept hold of him despite the striker reportedly going on strike at the start of last season.

Manchester City are completely out of the running for the England captain after signing Erling Haaland in the summer. The Norwegian currently leads the Premier League’s scoring charts. As for Kane, there’s still a huge chance to leave Spurs, which may arrive after the current season.

At 29, the next move may represent his final big chance to make a mark elsewhere and possibly have the chance to win trophies. Manchester United could become a realistic destination for Kane. There is some reported interest from the Red Devils in the 17-goal Premier League star.

Manchester United are in the current market to sign a new striker following the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo before the World Cup. The Portuguese’s departure has left a gaping hole in their attacking setup, which Erik ten Hag is working hard to fill.

Wout Weghorst is being considered on a loan deal, with the Dutchman reportedly keen on the move. Yet, if the move transpires, it has all the hallmarks of a temporary deal. Manchester United will then consider long-term prospects in the summer. Hence, Kane becomes a target for the club, but signing the England international is difficult.

Kane’s contract at Tottenham expires in 2024, which puts him in a strong position when the summer window opens. Spurs will try their best to get a renewal in place, with the striker reportedly considering everything at this stage.

If he decides against signing an extension, he could become available, as Spurs will brace themselves for a big offer. Levy has always remained wary of selling the striker to a direct rival, but this time, Kane will have a stronger position in choosing his next move.

Manchester United could become a great option for Kane. He is chasing down Alan Shearer’s all-time Premier League goalscoring record, which stands at 260. The striker is around 62 goals away from that mark, and at a club like the Red Devils, he could comfortably beat the record.
