Manchester United could be a future destination for English striker Harry Kane if he is to leave Tottenham Hotspur.

Dean Jones has told Give Me Sport that Manchester United could turn out to be a realistic option for Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane. The England skipper could rethink his future if Spurs fail to end their trophy drought this season.

Jones said, “If he stays in England, it looks like there are only two realistic options and they’re quite different. One would be Man United, where you’re looking at Premier League history and traditions and hoping that they’re about to turn a corner and reclaim past glories.”

Manchester United’s interest in the prolific English striker is not new. But they have never taken their interest to the next level due to Kane’s commitment to Tottenham. The 29-year-old has been their main man for the last few seasons, but he has not managed to reap his reward as the North Londoners have had the knack of faltering at crucial phases.

Things could have panned out differently when Manchester City came hunting for him in the summer of 2021. But Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy’s decision to slap a £150 million price tag proved too much for Pep Guardiola, who backed out from the proposed move.

Kane’s chances of joining the reigning Premier League champions further suffered a massive jolt when they signed Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund. And Manchester City are unlikely to invest further in a striker.

Meanwhile, Manchester United’s current attacking contingent is missing a focal point as neither Anthony Martial nor Marcus Rashford has provided their assistance in the number nine position. Rashford has looked promising when operating from the left flank. So the need for a proper number nine has been felt.

Kane’s ability needs no introduction, and this could be his last chance to snatch a long lucrative contract as he is due to turn 30 next summer. The prolific English striker also will be entering the final year of the contract.

It will be interesting to see if Manchester United finally get to execute their long-pending plans in the summer to seal a deal for the Tottenham striker. But Spurs are confident of tying the prolific English striker to a new contract.
