Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in signing 27-year-old Fulham midfielder Joao Palhinha.

According to a report from Give Me Sport, Liverpool and Tottenham are keeping tabs on Joao Palhinha. And they could look to make a move for the 27-year-old Fulham midfielder in the coming months.

Joao Palhinha joined Fulham in a deal worth around £20 million, and he has been an instant hit at the London club. The Portuguese international has taken to the Premier League like a duck to water, establishing himself as a key player for folium. He has three goals in the league this season.

There is no doubt that the 27-year-old is one of the most reliable defensive midfielders in the league right now. And Liverpool could certainly use someone like him. Brazilian midfielder Fabinho’s form has fallen off a cliff this season, and Jurgen Klopp is in desperate need of reinforcements.

It will be interesting to see if Fulham are prepared to let a key player leave midway through the season. The London club have no shortage of resources, and they are under no pressure to sell Palhinha in January. So Liverpool might have to wait until the summer transfer window to land the 27-year-old ace.

Meanwhile, Tottenham, who showed interest in Palhinha in the summer, are keen on signing the Portuguese international as well. It would be quite surprising if the London club decided to invest in another defensive midfielder instead of signing a creative midfielder.

Antonio Conte already has players like Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Yves Bissouma at his disposal. Signing another defensive midfielder could be an overkill for the Londoners. Tottenham are better off signing a creative midfielder who will add goals and assists to the side.

Both teams are fighting for a place in the top four and could certainly use quality additions in January to boost their chances of UEFA Champions League qualification. Meanwhile, Liverpool have also shown interest in other midfielders like Kouadio Kone.

The 27-year-old Portuguese midfielder is at the peak of his powers right now, and he will feel that this is the right time for him to make a step up in his career. The opportunity to play for Liverpool or Tottenham could be a tempting proposition for the midfielder. And it remains to be seen whether he has his head turned if there is a concrete offer on the table.
