Liverpool are reportedly interested in Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Kouadio Kone, a target for Newcastle United.
According to reputed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool will compete with Newcastle United for 21-year-old French midfielder Kouadio Kone. But any move is likely to happen in the summer.
The talented young defensive midfielder has been quite impressive for the German club, and it is no surprise that his performances have caught the attention of the top Premier League clubs like Newcastle United and Liverpool.
Kone has the potential to develop into a top-class player, and a move to Newcastle or Liverpool could help accelerate his development and fulfil his potential. Managers like Jurgen Klopp and Eddie Howe could influence his growth as a player, as they have done with countless young players throughout their managerial careers.
Liverpool are in desperate need of midfield reinforcements, and they will have to replace players like Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade Chamberlain and James Milner at the end of the season. All three players will be free agents in the summer when their contracts expire.

Furthermore, Jordan Henderson has not been at his best this season, and Klopp needs a complete rebuild in the middle of the park. On the other hand, Newcastle will have to find a reliable midfield partner for Bruno Guimaraes, and the 21-year-old French midfielder could be the ideal long-term solution.
The highly-rated defensive midfielder will help protect the back four and recycle the possession in the middle of the park. Furthermore, he has impressive technical attributes and could be a playmaker from the deep for both clubs as well. Recent reports have claimed that Newcastle made an approach for the youngster.
Romano claims that Jude Bellingham remains a priority target for Liverpool, and Kone is a secondary option for them. Bellingham is likely to cost a club record fee and Kone would be a relatively inexpensive addition.
It remains to be seen whether the Reds decide to come forward with an offer for the 21-year-old and sign him at the end of the season. PSG and Bayern Munich are keen on signing the French midfielder as well, and there is likely to be fierce competition for Kone at the end of the season.
