Chelsea pushing to sign Marcus Thuram this month

Chelsea continue to push hard towards signing Marcus Thuram in January than waiting until the summer to ease their attacking problems.

According to Foot Mercato, Chelsea are pushing to sign Marcus Thuram in January as Todd Boehly has identified the urgent need for a striker. There is considerable interest from rivals, with the forward inclined to sign for a club around the summer. But the Blues want a deal now.

There is a peculiar situation brewing at Chelsea, with co-owner, Todd Boehly, keen to tie up multiple deals in January. Following their loss to Manchester City at Stamford Bridge, two new injuries were picked up by forward players Raheem Sterling and Christian Pulisic.

Those two players may force Boehly to enter the market for a forward, with Marcus Thuram a potential target. Chelsea are already in talks with Shakhtar Donetsk for Arsenal target Mykhaylo Mudryk, but there are complications in signing the 21-year-old star.

Hence, the idea of Thuram appeals to Boehly, who may continue to push to sign the Frenchman in January. The idea would revolve around offering a reasonable fee to Borussia Monchengladbach and agreeing on terms with the player to complete an urgent transfer.

Gladbach could accept fair terms knowing they would lose the player on a free transfer in the summer. The Bundesliga side cannot retain the 13-goal star, considering the amount of interest coming from everywhere. Chelsea are very keen to sign him now than wait until the summer.

On the other hand, Thuram may have preferred to wait until the summer when he might have more offers on the table. The French international also has interest from Manchester United and reportedly remains keen to join the Red Devils. Chelsea’s pursuit, however, could turn his head, and he may consider their offer in January.

Chelsea have already secured a deal for Thuram’s compatriot Christopher Nkunku while also recently signing David Fofana from Molde. Adding Thuram in January would boost their chances of securing Champions League football for next season.
