Manchester United lead the race to sign Marcus Thuram, who does not wish to join Newcastle United instead of the Red Devils.

As per Bild, Marcus Thuram could be on his way to Manchester United amid interest from Newcastle United over a move in the January transfer window. The 25-year-old is in the last year of his contract and could be a free agent next summer.

Manchester United are pretty keen to add another striker to their ranks, with Erik ten Hag admitting they are searching for the right kind of profile who would match their system and financial criteria.

The Red Devils are pretty tight when it comes to the winter transfer budget as they already overspent their summer transfer kitty. The untimely departure of Cristiano Ronaldo made things more difficult as the Portuguese mutually decided to terminate his contract with the club.

Jadon Sancho’s return to action is still not fixed, and Manchester United are a couple of bodies short in their attacking department. Marcus Rashford is having a breakthrough season, but the 25-year-old has delivered mostly from the left-hand side. So the Red Devils are missing an astute striker currently.

Manchester United are evaluating the loan market as of now. But Thuram could be a much cheaper option. Borussia Monchengladbach would likely demand around £10.6 million, and the Premier League giants certainly afford that kind of a sum.

They also have had talks regarding a loan deal for Atletico Madrid’s Joao Felix. But a substantial loan fee and a few other terms are causing problems in the move. Newcastle United are also gearing up for a transfer for the talented striker, and Eddie Howe wants to add some more competition for Alexander Isak.

Manchester United need the numbers to cover an adequate number of games and the centre forward could help them in resolving a number of problems. Antony has failed to impress so far, and Thuram’s versatility could also come good on the flanks.

Manchester United have not started negotiating with his entourage. But having lost Cody Gakpo to Liverpool already, they cannot afford to miss another target. And sufficient arrangement needs to be done to ensure the player arrives at Old Trafford instead of Newcastle United.
