La Liga heavyweights Barcelona have reportedly set their sights on 23-year-old French centre-back Evan Ndicka.

According to a report by German outlet Sport1, Evan Ndicka has emerged on the radar of FC Barcelona. The Catalan giants want to sign the 23-year-old Eintracht Frankfurt in a Bosman move in the summer transfer window.

Evan Ndicka has gone from strength to strength since joining Eintracht Frankfurt from Aj Auxerre in July 2018. The French defender is closing in on completing half a decade with the German club. And he has been one of the best centre-backs in the Bundesliga in the last four and a half seasons.

The 23-year-old has turned out 162 times for Eintracht Frankfurt, chipping in with ten goals and ten assists. But Die Adler will likely lose Ndicka as a free agent in the summer transfer window, as he has entered the final six months of his contract. Such a situation has captured the attention of Barcelona.

Barcelona will enter the market for a centre-back in the summer transfer window after Gerard Pique hung up his boots. The former Spanish international was not a regular for the Blaugrana. But Pique’s retirement has left a spot vacant in the central defensive unit, one which Ndicka can fill.

In addition, Eric Garcia and Andreas Christensen have flattered to deceive with their performances. So Barcelona will need to invest in a top-class centre-back to compete with Jules Kounde and Ronald Araujo. Inigo Martinez has thus emerged as a viable target, with Barcelona reportedly closing in on signing him. But Ndicka is also a viable target for the Blaugrana.

Like Inigo Martinez, the 23-year-old French centre-back will be a free agent in the summer transfer window. In addition, Ndicka can potentially give Barcelona a decade of service, thus making him an appealing prospect. But Barcelona will likely face stiff competition for the Eintracht Frankfurt defender.

Widespread reports have linked several Premier League clubs with Ndicka. In addition, Juventus and AC Milan also want to sign the 23-year-old French centre-back. So it will be interesting to see if Barcelona can beat the competition to land the player in a Bosman move in the summer.
