Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie is reportedly keen to join an ambitious club like Chelsea or Tottenham this year.

According to Italian outlet Calciomercato, Weston McKennie wants join an elite club when he leaves Juventus. So Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur are in an advantageous position to land the 24-year-old.

Juventus have felt the need to offload a few of their prime players to balance their books. The Serie A giants have registered a loss over €250 million. And in a bid to stabilise their current financial condition, McKennie could be handed an early departure from Turin.

The USMNT international joined the Serie A club initially on loan before they made the deal permanent as the former Schalke midfielder made an infamous switch to Italy from Germany.

But it has not turned out the way McKennie would have hoped as he has not really been able to nail down a permanent place in the side. But at this crucial juncture, where injuries are piling up, Massimiliano Allegri could use his expertise.

Both Mattia De Sciglio and Juan Cuadrado are currently sidelined with injuries, and McKennie could be used as long as they are not deemed match-fit. But despite his availability, the Bianconeri are willing to sacrifice their sporting project and will invite bids for the midfielder.

Chelsea are in dire need of midfielders as both Jorginho and N’Golo Kante are in the final year of their respective contract. And the West London outfit have already been credited with an interest in a host of players, including McKennie.

Argentine midfielder Enzo Fernandez is the latest player to have been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge. But a deal does not seem to be close as it stands. And Chelsea’s position has strengthened as the player wants to join an elite club.

Tottenham are also clinging to the edge, and Antonio Conte needs some urgent reinforcements as his charges try to break into the top four. Having ceded their fourth position to Manchester United already, the north Londoners will be in serious trouble if they do not fix their loopholes this January.

A bidding war is about to be ignited as Juventus would be hoping to raise at least €30 million, with Aston Villa also sneaking their way into the transfer battle. But with the player keen on joining an elite club, Chelsea and Tottenham will have an advantage in his pursuit.
