Al-Nassr forward Vincent Aboubakar has been touted as a potential target for Manchester United in the January transfer window.

According to a report by Daily Mail, Manchester United could tap into the possibility of bringing in Vincent Aboubakar from Al-Nassr. The Red Devils are adamant to sign a striker this month, and they are ready to take up the help of the loan market.

Marcus Rashford’s emerging form has assured Erik ten Hag of having at least one potential scorer at his disposal. But the likes of Antony and Anthony Martial have not really filled in with consistent contributions.

Manchester United had been on the hunt for Cody Gakpo. But the Dutch forward has chosen to join Liverpool instead, and the Red Devils have had to start their search from the scratch. To that end, Marcus Thuram, who wants to join Manchester United, is a top target. And Vincent Aboubakar has now emerged on their radar.

Incidentally, Al-Nassr completed the signing of Cristiano Ronaldo recently. And it will be pretty strange if the Premier League outfit do take their interest in the 30-year-old Vincent Aboubakar to the next level.

Erik ten Hag recently explained Manchester United’s stance this winter as the club will only entertain loan deals as it stands. The Manchester United manager said, “It’s always difficult. Strikers are expensive, especially in the winter.”

“But you have to set the limits high. We’re looking for it. We need to be creative and do everything we have in our power to get the right players in, who are fitting in the balance. It’s about timing and availability. It’s about so many circumstances playing a role in that. It’s a long period and the window hasn’t even started.”

“I think we have a squad, we have players who are matching our criteria. But all the games are coming. It’s a tough competition, in all the leagues. We want to keep playing in all the leagues and in the cups as well. So we need players and we need numbers to cover.

“We need good players, not just the numbers. We need quality players to cover. And also we need competition and we need to know also that we can make different choices. So we are looking for the right player for our squad, but it has to match our sporting criteria, definitely, but also some financial criteria.”

Aboubakar does not really have encouraging numbers. But he impressed for Cameroon at the 2022 FIFA World Cup and even netted the winning goal against Brazil in the group stage. It remains to be seen if Manchester United resort to this level or if they are willing to broaden their search area to other top European leagues. Memphis Depay is another candidate to join them.
