Manchester United are in discussions with Yassine Bounou and his entourage over the possibility of a deal in the near future.

As per Foot Mercato, Manchester United have contacted Sevilla custodian Yassine Bounou as they aim to make the 31-year-old goalkeeper their next number one. David de Gea’s position as the preferred choice could be in severe danger.

Manchester United have been searching for a suitable replacement for David de Gea, who has been the undisputed king in the goal for the last few campaigns. The 32-year-old has one of the leading shot-stoppers in the Premier League.

But the arrival of Erik ten Hag has complicated things for him. The Dutch manager is an avid believer in ball-playing goalkeepers. And de Gea’s distribution has not been his strongest point over the years.

The player does not really prosper when he asked to start the proceedings during a build-up, whereas the Manchester United manager really emphasises this certain aspect. The Spanish international has worked on his passing and distribution but still, there is room for improvement.

It is suggested the Manchester United management has raised some serious doubts over his durability. And his mammoth wages have further delayed the Red Devils’ decision on his future. The player is currently on a £375,000-a-week deal. But Manchester United want to offer him a new contract with a lesser pay package.

Meanwhile, Bounou showcased his skills once again at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, as Morocco defied all the odds to make it all the way to the semifinal. And his performances have captured the attention of Manchester United.

The 31-year-old extended his stay at Sevilla for a further three years, and the Spanish outfit have all the advantage in the negotiations. They would be demanding in the region of €50 million for their star man. But a deal could be arranged for a much lower price.

Manchester United have also scouted Diogo Costa. But the youngster will cost much more and could emerge to be the most expensive goalkeeper of all time. Bono will turn 32 in April and he could be soon in the twilight of his career.

It would be a bit odd for the Premier League giants if they spend that much amount on a 31-year-old. But you have to pay the price if you’re trying to snatch a prized asset these days. And Bono is a player for the big occasions as he showed at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
