La Liga champions Real Madrid have reportedly set their sights on 19-year-old Peruvian centre-back Aron Sanchez.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Aron Sanchez has popped up on the radar of Real Madrid. Los Blancos will scout the 19-year-old Academia Deportivo Cantolao centre-back at the South American Under-20 Championship.

Aron Sanchez is one of the brightest young centre-backs in South America. The teenage prodigy has been in his homeland since his youth career. And the Peruvian defender rose through the ranks at Esther Grande before joining Academia Deportivo Cantolao in 2018.

The 19-year-old took little time to break into the first-team squad, making his senior debut as a 16-year-old in February 2020. And Sanchez is now a regular for AD Cantolao, turning out 67 times thus far while chipping in with five goals and two assists. And the South American centre-back has popped up on the radar of Real Madrid.

Real Madrid will send scouts to the South American Under-20 Championship next month. And Los Blancos will track three players, in particular, during the month-long event. Alejandro Garnacho, whose performances for Manchester United have already alerted Real Madrid, is the top target. In addition, two other players feature prominently on their radar.

Aron Sanchez has emerged as a target to bolster the central defensive unit. And amid uncertainties surrounding Nacho, the 19-year-old is a viable target. While Real Madrid will look to sign Josko Gvardiol, it is worth noting that Antonio Rudiger will turn 30 next year. So Sanchez might be an option worth considering.

The 19-year-old South American centre-back fits with Florentino Perez’s agenda to complete the transition to the next generation by 2024. And he can initially learn the ropes from David Alaba and Rudiger before growing in stature in a few years. So it is hardly surprising that Real Madrid will monitor Sanchez’s performances in next month’s tournament.

It will be interesting to see if Sanchez becomes a top target for Real Madrid in the summer transfer window. For now, he will be eager to produce the goods for Peru at the South American Under-20 Championship.
