Real Madrid hit roadblock in Alphonso Davies pursuit

A stumbling block has emerged in front of Real Madrid, with Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich uninterested in selling Alphonso Davies.

According to a report by Bild, Bayern Munich will not entertain any bids for Alphonso Davies. And the Bundesliga champions are ready to offer the 22-year-old a new contract. The young left-back is a target for Real Madrid for the 2024 summer transfer window.

Alphonso Davies has gone from strength to strength since joining Bayern Munich from Vancouver Whitecaps in January 2019. Nearly four years since arriving at the Allianz Arena, the youngster is one of the best full-backs in the Bundesliga. And he is a pivotal figure for Die Roten.

The 22-year-old has turned out 134 times thus far for Bayern Munich, chipping in with six goals and 21 assists. Davies has also made his mark on the international stage, taking Canada to the 2022 FIFA World Cup. And his progress has captured the attention of Real Madrid.

Real Madrid will look to complete the transition to the next generation of consistent winners in 2024. The reigning La Liga champions will see Endrick arriving from Palmeiras in July 2024. And the Brazilian wonderkid should be Karim Benzema’s successor at the Santiago Bernabeu in the coming years.

In addition, Luka Modric and Toni Kroos will likely hang up their boots in the next 18 months. So the Merengues are laying down the succession plan for the ageing midfield stalwarts. As for the left-back slot, Ferland Mendy is seemingly on borrowed time at Real Madrid. And with Los Blancos considering selling the 27-year-old, Davies has emerged as a viable target.

The Bayern Munich defender will be a long-term solution in the left-back slot. And the Spanish giants are considering a 2024 move for the Canadian international. But the Bundesliga champions are not interested in selling Davies and will not entertain any bids from Real Madrid.

In addition, Bayern Munich will likely offer a new contract to Davies in the coming months. So with the 22-year-old unlikely to leave the Bundesliga outfit, Real Madrid will need to identify alternatives. And it will be interesting to see who joins Los Blancos to become the left-back solution.
