Chelsea have reportedly proposed a club-record bid to sign Enzo Fernandez, a target for Liverpool and Manchester United.
According to a report from Daily Record, Chelsea have offered to pay over €127 million to sign Enzo Fernandez. The Argentine international is also a target for Liverpool and Manchester United.
The 21-year-old has been exceptional for club and country this season, and he helped Argentina win the 2022 FIFA World Cup earlier this month. The player has been linked with Liverpool and Manchester United as well. And it will be interesting to see if Chelsea can win the race for his signature.
The Blues will need to improve their midfield options in the coming months, and Fernandez could prove to be a quality long-term addition. Key players like Jorginho and N’Golo Kante could be on their way out of Stamford Bridge at the end of the season.
Both players will be free agents in the summer, and Chelsea have not managed to convince them to sign an extension with the club. Enzo Fernandez has thus emerged as a viable target. And he could be the ideal long-time replacement for Jorginho, although it remains to be seen how the situation develops.
Apparently, Benfica will only consider selling the midfielder at the end of the season because they do not want to jeopardise their title challenge this season. The Portuguese outfit are in a good position to win the Primeira Liga title. And they believe that selling Enzo Fernandez would weaken the squad considerably and damage their hopes of winning a major trophy.
The Argentine international was chosen as the Best Young Player in the World Cup, and there is no doubt that he is an elite talent. The 21-year-old has all the attributes to develop into a world-class player, and Chelsea boss Graham Potter could help him fulfil his potential.
The former Brighton manager has helped nurture young players throughout his managerial career, and he could have a considerable impact on the development of the Argentine international. And with Chelsea submitting a club-record bid, they might fancy their chances of beating Liverpool and Manchester United.
Moves to Liverpool or Manchester United would represent an exciting opportunity for the player as well. Liverpool will need to replace the likes of Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and James in the summer. And Fernandez would be a superb acquisition. He could partner Thiago Alcantara and Fabinho at the heart of Jurgen Klopp’s midfield.
At Manchester United, he could be an upgrade on Scott McTominay and Fred. The Argentine would be a quality partner for Casemiro. But recent reports have said that Manchester United are not in the best financial conditions to secure a deal for Enzo Fernandez. And Chelsea’s entrance in the equation further complicates matters.
