Benfica midfielder Enzo Fernandez is a January target for Liverpool, who are preparing an offer to sign the Argentine midfielder.

According to River Instante, Liverpool are prepared to submit an offer of around £80 million for Enzo Fernandez during the January transfer window. The Reds will look to leave the 21-year-old Argentine midfielder at the Benfica until the end of the season. In addition, former club River Plate could receive a sum of around £20 million because of a sell-on clause in his contract.

Enzo Fernandez was outstanding for Argentina at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, and he was a key player for them as they won the final on Sunday. The 21-year-old is destined to develop into a top-class player in the future, and it is no surprise that elite clubs like Liverpool are looking to sign him.

Liverpool will have to improve the midfield department considerably over the next few months, and Fernandez could be a quality long-term addition. The 21-year-old has all the attributes to develop into a world-class central midfielder. And someone like Jurgen Klopp could positively influence his development.

The German manager has done exceptionally well to nurture talented young players throughout his managerial career. And Enzo Fernandez is likely to improve under his tutelage at Liveprool.

The opportunity to join a big club like Liverpool could be an attractive proposition for the player. So it will be interesting to see how the situation develops over the next few weeks.

Liverpool will not be the only club looking to sign Fernandez next month, and his performances are believed to have caught the attention of a number of European clubs. It remains to be seen whether Liverpool can fend off the competition and secure his services.

The fact that the Reds are ready to let him stay at Benfica until June could be appealing to the Portuguese club. Meanwhile, the Reds have been linked with Jude Bellingham and Sofyan Amrabat as well. Both players did exceptionally well for their respective countries at the World Cup and will be important additions to the side if Liverpool manage to pull it off.
