Everton keen on Anthony Elanga

Everton remains interested in Anthony Elanga, as Frank Lampard could look to sign the Swedish winger on a loan deal in January.

According to the Daily Mail, Everton are keen on taking Anthony Elanga, possibly on a loan deal during the January window. The 20-year-old attacker is frustrated with his situation at Manchester United, with Erik ten Hag yet to trust the winger fully.

Anthony Elanga seemed like a promising prospect last season and followed up with a decent start to the current campaign. The 20-year-old attacker was one of the shining lights during the ill-fated tenure of Ralf Rangnick, but new boss Erik ten Hag may not trust the winger completely.

Ten Hag has barely used Elanga since the season began. Despite the 20-year-old attacker being readily available, the manager has overlooked his presence and gone with other players. The Swedish international’s situation gets trickier as Manchester United remain interested in signing a new winger in January.

Elanga is not getting enough chances despite Ten Hag’s recently banishing Jadon Sancho from the squad is quite baffling. Moreover, the Dutch boss has pushed for Alejandro Garnacho and seems to prefer the youngster over other options in the wide attacking areas.

Manchester United are keen on Cody Gakpo, and if the PSV Eindhoven star arrives, it will surely mark the end for Elanga. Everton are in the market for a new winger and striker, but Frank Lampard could only bring in players on loan owing to financial restrictions.

Everton remains interested in Elanga and could plot a loan deal in January. In the summer, Lampard wanted to sign the 20-year-old attacker but could not convince Manchester United to part ways with the winger. Despite, Elanga falling down the pecking order, it won’t be an easy deal for the Toffees.

First, they must convince Elanga that Everton would prove a good place for his development. The recent, ill-fated loan deal involving teammate Donny van de Beek would be fresh in his mind, which may not help the Toffees. Secondly, it’s unclear whether Manchester United are open to letting him leave.

Despite Ten Hag not selecting him often, Elanga may still be considered an important squad player. His presence certainly adds quality depth to the squad, especially with the second part of the season, where games will come thick and fast.

If Elanga wishes to play regularly in the next six months, a move away from Old Trafford seems necessary. However, with Everton in the mix, Manchester United and Ten Hag have the key to deciding on the 20-year-old attacker’s future.
