Chelsea plot loan move for Joao Felix

Chelsea are considering a loan move for Atletico Madrid in the winter transfer window to fix their current attacking issues.

As per the Telegraph, Chelsea are interested in agreeing to a deal for Atletico Madrid youngster Joao Felix. The 23-year-old hasn’t been prolific since his arrival at Wanda Metropolitano in 2019.

The forward has been in demand as several clubs are circling around for his signature and he will certainly be leaving the club next month. Atletico paid £114 million to Benfica but are yet to get the desired service from the young talent.

He hasn’t really sparked since he arrived in Spain and perhaps he would need some other stage to end his ongoing drought. Chelsea seem to have lost their purpose under Graham Potter as they haven’t really managed to put up commanding performances.

The Blues invested pretty significantly in the summer but that hasn’t really paid off and they are expected to make further inroads in winter. Felix has been deemed to be surplus to requirements as Atletico manager Diego Simeone isn’t really convinced about his conviction.

Since crashing out of the Champions League their financial position is in the doldrums and they need to balance their books by letting the player leave Madrid.

Chelsea’s attack has been the main reason for their downfall as there hasn’t been any kind of encouragement from their forward players. A major shakeup needs to be done and Felix could arrive at Stamford Bridge as a result.

He has already shown in the World Cup what he is capable of and the Blues are willing to take that risk. An initial loan deal could be agreed upon with an option to buy the player later but the Premier League giants will have to bear his entire wage.

Manchester United are also preparing a move for the player and they may find substantial resistance from their Premier League rivals. Felix’s flexibility to adapt to every condition could be the key to unlocking him. He has mostly excelled in the withdrawal forward role but in the World Cup he has demonstrated his ability on the flanks and Chelsea would be spoilt for choices should he arrive in West London
