Chelsea defender Kalidou Koulibaly has been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge, with Inter Milan interested.

According to Italian publication La Repubblica, as relayed by Inter News, Inter Milan are hoping to sign 31-year-old Chelsea defender, Kalidou Koulibaly, if they fail to agree on a new contract with Milan Skriniar.

The Slovakian defender will be a free agent at the end of the season, and he has been linked with a move to the Premier League, with Chelsea interested. It makes sense that Inter Milan are looking at potential replacements for the player given his contract situation.

Skriniar is one of the best defenders around Europe right now, and Inter Milan will hope to agree on an extension with him in the coming weeks. However, if the Serie A giants fail to do so, Koulibaly could be a useful option.

The 31-year-old defender joined Chelsea in the summer transfer window. But things have not worked out for him at Stamford Bridge, and a departure might be on the cards. The experienced defender is struggling for regular game time, and his performances have been unconvincing as well.

It will be interesting to see if the Senegalese defender can adapt to English football in the second half of the campaign and convince Chelsea to hold on to him for the long run. Koulibaly was widely regarded as a top-class defender during his time at Napoli, and it seems that he is struggling with the intensity of Premier League football. It will be interesting to see how the situation unfolds over the next few months now.

On the other hand, Skriniar could be an excellent addition to most Premier League clubs, and Chelsea might look to make a move for him if he is available in the near future. The Blues will have to bring in more than one centre-back at the end of the season, especially with Cesar Azpilicueta and Thiago Silva in their twilight years.

Chelsea are unlikely to sell Koulibaly midway through the season as it would weaken their squad. Therefore, he will have ample opportunities to prove his quality at Stamford Bridge over the next few months. And it remains to be seen whether he can get back to his best.
