Barcelona keen on Joao Felix

Barcelona will reportedly look to prise disgruntled Portuguese forward Joao Felix from Atletico Madrid next year, but a move is unlikely.

David Bernabeu Reverter has told Radioestadio Noche that Joan Laporta is a keen admirer of Joao Felix. The Barcelona president is eager to bring the disgruntled Atletico Madrid forward to Spotify Camp Nou. But a 2023 move seems unlikely due to Barcelona’s poor financial condition.

Joao Felix has somewhat stagnated since joining Atletico Madrid from Benfica a few years ago. The Colchoneros had shattered their transfer record to secure the services of the Portuguese international. But the move has not been successful for either party as the youngster has blown hot and cold in a system that does not suit him.

In addition, the 23-year-old has endured a frustrating 2022/23 season. He has started only nine of the 21 games played by Atletico Madrid this season. And Felix reportedly wants to depart from Civitas Metropolitano in one of the two transfer windows next year. Such a situation has captured the attention of Barcelona.

Barcelona bolstered the offensive unit heavily this year by signing four attackers. In addition, Ansu Fati has regained fitness, while Ousmane Dembele signed a new contract with the Blaugrana. But it is worth noting that Robert Lewandowski is well into his thirties. In addition, Ferran Torres has not enjoyed himself since joining Barcelona from Manchester City.

Most importantly, Memphis Depay will leave Barcelona either in January or the summer and has emerged on Atletico Madrid’s radar. So the Catalan giants might have to dip their toes in the market for an offensive reinforcement. Felix is thus a viable target for Barcelona, especially considering his situation at Atletico Madrid.

According to David Bernabeu Reverter, Joan Laporta is a keen admirer of the 23-year-old. But while the Barcelona president wants to launch the offensive for Felix, financial problems will force the Blaugrana to call off a move before it even begins. However, the Portuguese forward will have plenty of options in England to leave Atletico Madrid.

Several Premier League clubs are vying for his signature. And Felix’s next destination seems to be England. As for Barcelona, it will be interesting to see who the Catalan giants target, considering the disgruntled Atletico Madrid attacker is beyond their budget.
