Chelsea have reportedly verbally agreed on a €20 million deal to sign Brazilian midfield sensation Andrey Santos from Vasco da Gama.

According to reputed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea have agreed to a €20 million fee with Vasco da Gama to sign 18-year-old Brazilian midfielder Andrey Santos. Apparently, the Blues have already agreed on personal terms with the player, and the two clubs will now prepare the documents for the transfer.

Andrey Santos has done well for Vasco this season, and he has eight goals to his name from the midfield. Chelsea need to strengthen the midfield department and the 18-year-old could prove to be a quality long-term addition. Recent reports had claimed that Chelsea had been closing in on signing the Brazilian midfield sensation.

The west Londoners have now verbally agreed to a €20 million deal for the 18-year-old. It will be interesting to see if the teenage prodigy can adapt to English football quickly, and establish himself as a first-team player for Chelsea in the coming seasons.

Santos was linked with other Premier League clubs in recent weeks, and Chelsea will be delighted to have secured his services. The young midfielder is highly rated in Brazil and has the potential to develop into a top-class player. The €20 million fee could look like a bargain in the long run.

Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly has shown a willingness to invest in long-term prospects since taking over at Stamford Bridge. And Santos is another exciting future investment. Meanwhile, the Blues should look to bring in a couple of established midfielders in the coming months as well.

Jorginho and N’Golo Kante will be out of contract in the summer. And both players might move on as free agents in the summer transfer window. Graham Potter might thus have to replace them adequately.

The 18-year-old Brazilian midfielder will add goals and creativity from the middle of the park when he is ready to play for the first team. Chelsea need someone with his skill set, and it remains to be seen whether Santos can impress in training and force his way into Potter’s first team plans.

The former Brighton & Hove Albion manager helped a number of young players develop into established stars during his time at the Amex Stadium. And he will be expected to have a positive impact on the development of the Brazilian midfield sensation as well.
