Liverpool have reportedly submitted a bid to sign Benfica midfielder Enzo Fernandez following his World Cup heroics with Argentina.

Argentina won the World Cup last week, and Enzo Fernandez was a key player for them throughout the tournament. The 21-year-old was chosen as the best young player in the tournament, and it is no surprise that the top European clubs are looking to sign them.

According to a report from Grand Hotel Calciomercato, Liverpool are determined to sign the talented young central midfielder and have presented a monstrous offer to take him to Anfield. The midfielder reportedly has a release clause of around €120 million, and it will be interesting to see if Liverpool are willing to shatter their transfer record in order to sign the World Cup winner.

The midfield unit has been an area of concern for Jurgen Klopp this season. So Liverpool will need to sort out that department if they want to challenge for the major trophies once again. With players Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain potentially leaving the club at the end of the season when their contracts expire, the Reds need to bring in more than one central midfielder.

Fernandez would be a solid, long-term acquisition. The Reds have been linked with players like Jude Bellingham as well. Meanwhile, Liverpool are not the only club looking to sign Enzo Fernandez; the Argentine has been linked with other European clubs as well.

And the Merseyside outfit have now stepped up their efforts to sign the World Cup winner by submitting a monstrous offer. And with the 21-year-old keen on joining them, Liverpool might have a handy chance of signing him.

The Argentine international could form a quality partnership at Liverpool alongside the likes of Thiago Alcantara and Fabinho. Ideally, Benfica would want to hold on to their star midfielder for as long as possible. But if the Reds decide to trigger his release clause, they will be powerless to stop him from leaving.
