Newcastle United in pole position to sign Moises Caicedo

Newcastle United are front-runners in the chase for Moises Caicedo, with Brighton set to demand at least €70 million for the Ecuadorian.

According to Fichajes, Moises Caicedo is a huge target for Newcastle United after the Ecuadorian continues to perform consistently for club and country. He’s had a good World Cup, which has put him on the radar of the Magpies, but Brighton will ask for at least €70 million.

Moises Caicedo was why Brighton did not feel the pinch when they lost key midfielder Yves Bissouma in the summer. It appeared the Ecuadorian had already usurped the Malian in midfield before last season ended and became a key part under Graham Potter.

As Brighton continues to hold him in high regard, Caicedo remains equally important for new boss Roberto De Zerbi. The Seagulls were fortunate to have few players at the World Cup, and some of those made a big mark on the international stage. While Alexis Mac Allister won the grand prize, Caicedo put in accomplished displays for Ecuador.

He is already considered one of the top performers in the Premier League, with several top sides keen on signing him. The €70 million-rated Chelsea, Liverpool target has attracted some of the biggest names towards him, who know signing him off Brighton’s hands is a difficult proposition.

Brighton reportedly wants at least €70 million to part ways with the influential 21-year-old midfielder. Caicedo has a contract until 2025, and the Seagulls are not open to doing a deal in January. In the summer, the doors would open, and the likes of Newcastle United, Chelsea, and Liverpool could pounce on the opportunity.

The Reds are keen to bolster their midfielder and are already looking at several options, including the Ecuadorian. Meanwhile, Chelsea considers him an absolute priority as the Blues look for players to replace N’Golo Kante and possibly even Jorginho.

However, Newcastle United are reportedly in the lead for Caicedo. The Magpies are open to exploring the idea of bringing the Ecuadorian, as Eddie Howe is reportedly open to signing a defensive midfielder in January. They may have to wait until the summer to bring in Caicedo.

Newcastle currently sits in third place behind Arsenal and Manchester City. They have proven to be a defensively sound side this season alongside the Gunners, and Howe will want more names to strengthen that reputation. Caicedo will bring plenty of nous to the team and build up the hopes of a top-four finish.

He will prove an expensive acquisition, but the Magpies might ready themselves to invest in the right player. The Ecuadorian could prove to be that star, as Howe has previously spent a huge fee on young striker Alexander Isak.
