Leeds United are reportedly in talks to sign Atletico Madrid striker Matheus Cunha, a target for Arsenal.

According to a report from Goal, Leeds United are hoping to sign Matheus Cunha from Atletico Madrid. And they have already opened talks regarding a move for the 23-year-old striker, a target for Arsenal. And Los Rojiblancos want €30 million for the player.

Matheus Cunha joined Atletico Madrid last year, but he has not been able to live up to the expectations so far. The Brazilian international is yet to find the net for the Spanish club this season, and he has been linked with a move away from Spain in recent weeks.

Atletico Madrid are believed to be under financial pressure after crashing out of the UEFA Champions League in the group stages. And the Spanish club could look to sell some of their players in order to balance the books. They have slapped a €30 million price tag on Cunha.

Cunha is reportedly considered an expendable asset, and it will be interesting to see if they are prepared to sell the player to Leeds United when the transfer window opens in January. Leeds will be hoping to improve during the second half of the season, and they must look to bolster their squad in January. Cunha has thus emerged as a viable target.

The 23-year-old striker could prove to be a quality acquisition for Jesse Marsch. And it remains to be seen whether Leeds can agree on a reasonable price with Atletico Madrid. It is unclear if they will be open to shelling out €30 million on the player.

The Brazilian will be desperate to get his career back on track. And a move to the Premier League with Leeds United could give him the opportunity to do so. Meanwhile, table toppers Arsenal are also considering signing the 23-year-old following the injury to Gabriel Jesus.

There is no doubt that Cunha is a quality talent who has the potential to develop into a top-class player. He needs to join a club where he will get regular game time. And Leeds, unlike Arsenal, could be the ideal destination for him.

The Whites are lacking a reliable goalscoring presence on their side right now, and Cunha could be a key player for them during the second half of the campaign. The 23-year-old has been linked with other Premier League clubs like Wolverhampton Wanderers as well, and it will be interesting to see where he ends up eventually.
