Everton are considering an approach for Atletico Madrid forward Matheus Cunha in an order to replace Salomon Rondon.

According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, Everton are planning an offer for Atletico Madrid forward Matheus Cunha. The Brazilian is unlikely to stay at the Spanish club beyond January as it seems.

The Toffees got rid of Rondon as they terminated the contract of the Venezuelan striker and will be soon filling his boots with a new arrival. Everton haven’t been at par with their reputation as they are currently flirting with the relegation zone.

As club football is about to resume, Frank Lampard wants some new additions to bolster his side’s chances in the relegation fight. Cunha has developed into a complete forward but hasn’t had much fanfare at the Wanda Metropolitano since he arrived. Diego Simeone doesn’t seem to be very convinced with his work rate and will listen to offers for the player.

The club will only entertain permanent offers and an initial loan deal with an option to make it permanent could be viable for both parties. But Rojiblancos would not want to bear his wages and Everton can respect their proposition.

The player has been linked with Arsenal recently.

Cunha has a contract until 2026 and a compromise over a transfer fee can be reached as Everton could use the leverage as Atletico’s Champions League exit put some additional burden on them and they need to balance their books in a bid to evade more complications.

Atletico might have a long line of players who are set for a new destination and Cunha is in the front of that queue. The forward’s flexibility on both wings made him a more interesting prospect but he is expected to attract more attention once he is placed on the transfer market.

Everton did manage to give relegation a skip last year and they might be second-time lucky this time. But for that, some specific needs to be fulfilled and bringing top quality forward is one of them. Cunha will be needing a fresh platform to revive his career and both he and the struggling side could complement each other in what could be a fairytale ending.
