Chelsea have been linked with a move for Borussia Dortmund striker Youssoufa Moukoko.
The player was expected to sign a new contract with the German outfit but Sky Germany are now reporting that the player has no agreement with the Bundesliga club. Chelsea are currently leading the chase for his services.
The 18-year-old is regarded as one of the most promising young attackers in European football, and he has a massive future ahead of him. The player has been linked with a number of Premier League clubs in recent months, and it will be interesting to see if Chelsea can secure his signature soon.
Moukoko will be out of contract at the end of the season, and he will be able to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs when the transfer window opens next month. It remains to be seen whether Chelsea decide to sign him on a free transfer in the summer or pay a reasonable fee in January and bring the move forward.
Chelsea are in desperate need of attacking reinforcements right now, especially after the injury blow to Armando Broja.
The Blues were already struggling to find the net consistently with the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Raheem Sterling, Kai Havertz, Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech in mediocre form this season.
Signing someone like Moukoko midway through the season could galvanise their attack and help them finish the second half of the season strongly.
Moukoko has been in impressive form for the German club season, scoring six goals and picking up six assists across all competitions. He was part of Germany’s World Cup squad as well.
The 18-year-old has all the attributes to develop into a world-class player, and Graham Potter could help him fulfil his potential at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea are currently fighting for a place in the top four and they will need to strengthen the squad considerably during the January window in order to secure Champions League qualification.
Signing Moukoko for a reasonable price in January would be a good start for the Blues and it remains to be seen how the situation develops.
