Chelsea are pondering a surprise swoop for Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele in near future.
As per Fichajes, Chelsea are weighing up a potential offer for Ousmane Dembele. The 25-year-old has been in scintillating form for both his club and country.
The winger has managed to stay far from his lingering injury issues as he has been firing on all cylinders since the start of this campaign. Four goals and five assists in 14 La Liga matches reminded them all of his usual self and the winger has gone on to establish his authority on a far bigger stage.
He has been an ever-present for the French side on the right flank in this ongoing World Cup as Didier Deschamps has relied heavily on the player and the return has been quite fascinating.
There has been very few players who are more direct in their approaches and Dembele loves to take on defenders on his own. The forward signed a new contract extension until 2024 and it also has a €50 million release clause leaving the door open for other clubs to poach in.
Chelsea are looking for attacking reinforcements and this release clause could provoke them to tease the Spanish giants with a suitable offer. Barcelona are aware of his demands and Xavi believes to be an avid admirer of the player.
His recent showings could force the club to discuss a new contract with the player which could further elevate his release clause to a higher level. Chelsea are in dire need of wide players and Graham Potter has already instructed his recruitment team to find the ideal player for him.
Dembele’s persistent injury issues could still play in the back of the mind of the English manager who has had a tough time dealing with a number of issues since his arrival at Stamford Bridge. Dembele does have the quality to thrive in the Premier League but it remains to be seen whether he accepts a completely different challenge which could turn the tide in his career.
Chelsea will get rid of the likes of Hakim Ziyech and Christian Pulisic and it seems the French international has pretty big shoes to fill.
