Joao Felix is an opportunistic signing that every top club wants, and Arsenal reportedly lead the charge ahead of Manchester United.

According to MARCA, Arsenal are ahead in the chase for Joao Felix, with Manchester United closely behind for the Portuguese star. The 23-year-old does not have a future at Atletico Madrid, who are demanding a fee of over €100 million to let their prized asset leave.

Top clubs are looking for incredible deals in the transfer market. But some opportunistic signings come less often, particularly in the January window. Joao Felix is one of those, as the Portuguese star is reportedly available for a transfer next month.

Many clubs are chasing the 23-year-old’s signature, including many from the Premier League. Despite Felix’s struggles at Atletico Madrid and particularly with Diego Simeone, the Spanish giants are unwilling to sell him cheaply as they demand a fee over €100 million.

Reports put a precise figure of €120 million quoted to Manchester United amid heavy interest from the Red Devils. However, the story claims Arsenal are in the lead for Felix and may see him as an opportunistic signing worth spending the money on.

Felix likes to play more in a central role but slightly off the striker. He could also play in the wide role, which makes him a versatile talent required at a club like Arsenal. However, his price tag may prove problematic.

The Gunners may consider him a chance signing that may be seen as an investment for the long term. While Atletico invested heavily in the Portuguese international, the talent was never in doubt. He will fit in well at the Gunners and within Mikel Arteta’s setup.

The north Londoners are in the market for a few players who could push them ahead in the hunt for the Premier League title, as they currently lead by five points. However, Arsenal have plenty of other clubs for competition, including Manchester United, who are one of the favourites to land the attacker.

The Manchester United attacking target has reportedly stated his preference to join the Red Devils ahead of clubs like Newcastle United. There is also a clear vacancy in Erik ten Hag’s squad after the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo. And the Atletico Madrid attacker could eye a long-term place at Old Trafford.

With Barcelona also among those keen, others like Bayern Munich, Chelsea, and even Aston Villa could be vying for the Manchester United attacking target. Whether Arsenal are genuine contender could get clear in the coming weeks. Still, the Premier League leaders will undoubtedly consider approaching if the player is open to a move.
