Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for the Barcelona midfielder Franck Kessie in recent weeks, but a deal seems unlikely.

Dean Jones has told Give Me Sport that Tottenham’s pursuit of Franck Kessie would be a waste of time. He revealed that the 26-year-old Ivorian midfielder is unlikely to leave Barcelona midway through the season. So any transfer would have to wait until the summer window at the very least.

The 26-year-old joined Barcelona on a free transfer from AC Milan. But he has not been able to hold down a regular starting berth under Xavi Hernandez. The player is clearly struggling to adapt to Barcelona’s style and philosophy. And it will be interesting to see if he can turn things around during the second half of the season.

Dean Jones believes that playing for Barcelona is a dream for the midfielder, and Kessie will not give up on his dream so easily. It seems that he will stay at Barcelona until the summer transfer window at the very least and look to turn his career around.

In an interview with Give Me Sport, Jones said, “I think a cheeky bid for Kessie in January would probably be a waste of time to be honest. He’s basically chasing a dream here. And I think he’ll give it the rest of the season before he even contemplates going anywhere else.”

Spurs have been linked with a number of midfielders in recent weeks, including Kessie. And it will be interesting to see if Tottenham can bring in the necessary reinforcements during the January transfer window after the latest update on the Barcelona midfielder.

It is no secret that Tottenham will have to add more depth to their central midfield department. Antonio Conte has not been able to rotate his first-choice midfielders too often because of the lack of options. And he needs to bring in more players so that he can keep the squad fresh for the business end of the season.

Tottenham have been linked with players like Weston McKennie and Sofyan Amrabat in recent weeks. Both players have done well at the 2022 FIFA World Cup so far, and it will be interesting to see if Spurs can sign either of them in January.

Meanwhile, Kessie has all the attributes to succeed in English football, and it will be interesting to see if he can secure a move to the Premier League at the end of the season. The Barcelona midfielder will add physical presence and defensive steel to Tottenham’s midfield if they can pull off his signature in the coming months. But a January deal seems unlikely for Tottenham.
