Liverpool are the frontrunner for 15-year-old English prodigy and Sunderland youngster Chris Rigg, with Newcastle United also in the hunt.

According to the Daily Star, Liverpool have jumped ahead in the queue for Chris Rigg, the 15-year-old English prodigy from Sunderland. Other clubs are chasing the exciting prospect, including Everton and bitter north-east rivals Newcastle United.

Sunderland have produced some notable talents in their history and during the recent few decades in English football. They have another on their cards as 15-year-old English prodigy Chris Rigg continues to earn rave reviews for his performances for the youth sides.

Chris Rigg is an exciting talent, as many view him as the best Sunderland have produced since Jordan Henderson. The Liverpool star has gone on to forge a stellar career, continues to play at the highest level, and began his career at Sunderland.

Chris Rigg could go on to forge a similar career, although Sunderland will hope it’s with them than elsewhere. The club are keen to keep hold of the player, but the player cannot sign a professional contract at this stage. They will look to sort this out by the end of the season.

Sunderland will be forced to sell the 15-year-old English prodigy for a reported sum of £2.5 million if they cannot agree on a deal. Such a fee will prove a snip to some of the current Premier League clubs, as many weigh in approaches for Chris Rigg.

Liverpool are reportedly interested and are ahead of the queue of suitors, including Merseyside rivals Everton. Both clubs want the 15-year-old English prodigy to become a part of their future teams. Sunderland will undoubtedly hope the midfielder joins either of those sides than facing the inevitable threat of Newcastle.

The bitter north-east rivals are keeping tabs on Chris Rigg and will likely approach. Sunderland will surely hope the player will not play for the Magpies, but their growing stature in English football means they are one of the most exciting teams around.

For now, Liverpool could begin their groundwork to get the ball rolling for Chris Rigg. Sunderland will certainly hope for a more extended stay as there is a great promise of the midfielder becoming one of the topmost professionals in English football in years to come.
