Liverpool are reportedly unlikely to make a move to sign Moroccan midfielder Sofyan Amrabat from Serie A club Fiorentina in January.

Dean Jones has told Give Me Sport that Liverpool might not pursue Sofyan Amrabat when the transfer window reopens in January. The 26-year-old midfielder is valued at around £26 million by Serie A club Fiorentina.

Amrabat has been exceptional for his country at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, and he has helped them reach the quarter-finals of the competition. His performances have caught the attention of a number of Premier League clubs, including Liverpool. And it will be interesting to see if his suitors are willing to pay £26 million for him in January.

Amrabat is a key player for Fiorentina, and recent reports have claimed that the Serie A giants are not prepared to sell him in January. Journalist Dean Jones has now revealed to Give Me Sport that it would be surprising if Liverpool decided to pursue the 26-year-old in January.

Jones claims that Liverpool already have players like Harvey Elliott and Fabio Carvalho at their disposal, and they might find it difficult to accommodate Amrabat in the side.

He said,I’d be surprised over this one given they’ve got Harvey Elliott coming in, they’ve got Carvalho, they’ve got other players that I think mean that they don’t need to go down this route.”

However, the Moroccan international plays a different role to that of the two youngsters, and the Reds could certainly use someone like him. The £26m-rated central midfielder will add physical presence and defensive cover to Jurgen Klopp’s midfield at Liverpool.

The Reds have had persistent injury problems in the middle of the park this season. And the likes of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita have barely made any impact whatsoever. Furthermore, James Milner and Jordan Henderson are past their peak, and Liverpool have had to depend on Thiago Alcantara and Fabinho as their only reliable midfielders.

Bringing in Amrabat will add more quality and depth to Klopp’s midfield, and the 26-year-old could help Liverpool improve. The Reds had a mediocre first half of the campaign, and they will need to finish the season strongly in order to secure UEFA Champions League qualification.

Klopp cannot afford to take any risks in January, and he should look to bring in proven individuals like Amrabat, who have performed at the highest level with club and country.
