La Liga champions Real Madrid are reportedly keeping tabs on 21-year-old Portuguese World Cup hero Goncalo Ramos.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Goncalo Ramos has emerged on the radar of Real Madrid. The 21-year-old Benfica striker is currently enjoying a memorable campaign at the 2022 FIFA World Cup with Portugal.
Goncalo Ramos spent his formative years at three clubs before graduating from the Benfica academy a couple of years ago. And the Portuguese international made gradual progress in the last two seasons before becoming a pivotal figure for Benfica this season. And the departure of Darwin Nunez has reinvigorated him.
The 21-year-old has amassed 14 goals and six assists in 21 appearances for Benfica. And Ramos has taken the 2022 FIFA World Cup by storm, netting a hat-trick in his first start at the tournament, which came in the Round of 16 against Switzerland. And the player’s exploits have captured the attention of Real Madrid.
Real Madrid will bring Endrick to the Santiago Bernabeu in July 2024. And while the Brazilian prodigy will potentially be a long-term successor to Karim Benzema, Los Blancos might have to invest in a striker next summer. That is because the veteran French striker has struggled with fitness issues this season.
With Benzema spending considerable time on the sidelines, Carlo Ancelotti needs an alternative. Rodrygo Goes has been impressive when reprising the central striker’s role. But he is a revelation on the right wing, meaning signing a versatile striker should suit Real Madrid. Ramos has thus emerged as a viable target.
The reigning La Liga champions have recently shown interest in Marcus Rashford. But the English international will likely sign a new contract with Manchester United in the coming months. So Ramos seems like an option worth considering. And the 21-year-old can offer Real Madrid the next decade.
For now, the Portuguese striker will be focused on delivering the goods for his nation at the World Cup.
