Ruben Loftus-Cheek keen on Chelsea stay

Sir Jim Ratcliffe could replace Erik ten Hag with Graham Potter at Manchester United.

Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek is pretty keen to extend his stay at the club beyond his current contract.

As per Give Me Sport, Ruben Loftus-Cheek wants to be with Chelsea for a longer period. The 26-year-old has been given a pretty extended run this season and has managed to stay fit throughout the season so far.

Loftus-Cheek has started 12 games in the Premier League as Chelsea’s existent midfield crisis proved to be a boon for him. He has been deployed in a number of positions by Thomas Tuchel first and current manager Graham Potter has continued the process.

The Chelsea academy product had two successful loan stints at Crystal Palace and London and his performance for these two London clubs allowed him to create an impression in the middle of the pitch.

His performance also attracted interest from overseas, as AC Milan are reportedly interested in availing his services. The Italians are aware of his potential and want to offer the player a chance to follow in the footsteps of Fikayo Tomori who has made it big at San Siro after joining on a permanent transfer from the Blues.

But with both N’Golo Kante and Jorginho’s future up in the air the Blues cannot risk losing the player in the midst of the campaign. His current contract runs until 2024 and he also has a one-year extension clause in his deal.

Contract talks could take place as the Blues hierarchy will need his Premier League experience to chip in in case of an emergency situation arrives. He was hoping to find a place in Gareth Southgate’s World Cup squad but the Three Lions already have some majestic names with the likes of Declan Rice and Jude Bellingham which complicated his selection.

Eminent journalist Simon Phillips believes the player is very keen to stay at Stamford Bridge.

“It’s an interesting one because not so long ago they were talking about extending his contract and they were going to sit down with him and do that.

“Loftus-Cheek, in his eyes, he wants to stay at Chelsea. He’s always maintained the desire to stay here and make it at Chelsea, and he’s continued to prove that in recent seasons.”
