La Liga champions Real Madrid reportedly lead the race to sign 28-year-old Slovakian midfielder Stanislav Lobotka from Serie A giants Napoli.

Giacomo Iacobellis has told Bernabeu Digital that Stanislav Lobotka is a leading candidate to join Real Madrid next year. The reigning La Liga champions are in contact with Serie A giants Napoli for the 28-year-old midfielder.

Stanislav Lobotka has seen his stock skyrocket since joining Napoli from Celta Vigo nearly three years ago. The Slovakian midfielder often went under the radar during his stint in La Liga. But he has gone from strength to strength at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium. And the player has played a pivotal role in Napoli’s rise to the top of Serie A.

The 28-year-old has been a mainstay in the middle of the park for Napoli this season. And he has turned out 21 times across all competitions for the Partenopei, chipping in with one goal and one assist. Lobotka’s progress has not gone unnoticed either, with Real Madrid keen on signing him.

Real Madrid bolstered the midfield unit this past summer by signing Aurelien Tchouameni. But they remain in the market for at least one midfielder amid the advancing years of Luka Modric and Toni Kroos. In addition, Dani Ceballos will likely leave Real Madrid in one of the upcoming two transfer windows.

So Los Blancos will need to invest in a central midfielder in the summer transfer window. And Lobotka has emerged as a viable target for Real Madrid in the last few weeks. While the 28-year-old is primarily a holding midfielder, he is as effective as a box-to-box midfielder. So the interest from Real Madrid makes sense.

Recent reports claimed that Real Madrid submitted an enquiry for the Slovakian midfielder. And according to reputed Italian journalist Giacomo Iacobellis, the Merengues are the front-runners to sign Lobotka. Iacobellis has also added that the reigning La Liga champions are in contact with Serie A giants Napoli.

It will be interesting to see if Lobotka arrives at the Santiago Bernabeu sometime next year. For now, it looks like Real Madrid will bolster the midfield unit by signing the 28-year-old from Serie A giants Napoli.
