Newcastle United are scouting PSV Eindhoven winger Cody Gakpo and might be interested in a move if the situation permits.

According to Chronicle Live, Newcastle United are monitoring the movement of Dutch sensation Cody Gakpo, and they remain interested in the player. Gakpo is currently with the Netherlands squad as the Oranje romped to the World Cup quarterfinal with a 3-1 win over the USA. He is also a target for Manchester United and Liverpool.

The 23-year-old only fuelled the rumours with some brilliant bit of display on the World Cup stage. And his value has soared multiple folds, providing PSV Eindhoven with much food for thought over his imminent future.

Gakpo only signed a contract extension with PSV last January. But that has not stopped the likes of Manchester United and Liverpool to register interest in the Dutch forward. Manchester United particularly came close as they lodged a £25 million offer in the summer as Erik ten Hag was very much excited to combine with the player at Old Trafford.

But the Dutch club rebuffed their request, and Manchester United now might have to add a hefty premium on top of their previous bid. Meanwhile, Liverpool are also known to be one of his admirers, and Jurgen Klopp will definitely want to have a closer look at the player when the transfer window opens in January.

Sadio Mane’s departure opened a massive void to fill up on the left wing. And Gakpo’s current form prompted he is the perfect player to be his long-term successor. But recent reports have claimed that Manchester United are ahead of Liverpool in the race to sign Gakpo. And he has now emerged on the radar of Newcastle United.

The Magpies have been scouting the player for a long time and have all the possible requirements the player might opt to prefer when it comes to a transfer. Newcastle United are currently third in the Premier League table, and their exciting brand of football has already hogged all the limelight this season.

A €50 million offer should be sufficient as PSV cannot hold on to their asset if they receive a hefty offer. They need to balance their books, and selling Gakpo could help them in acquiring that rights. But that won’t be an easy task as Newcastle United will be facing a mountain of challenges from many clubs across the world, including Liverpool and Manchester United.
