Manchester United confident of signing Cody Gakpo

Manchester United are inching towards a move for PSV Eindhoven winger Cody Gakpo, who has lit up the World Cup with his goalscoring skills.

As per Football Insider, Manchester United are working towards facilitating a move for PSV Eindhoven’s Cody Gakpo. The Red Devils have been searching for a suitable replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo, and Gakpo seems to be the perfect fit. And they are confident of signing the Dutchman for a deal of over £50 million.

Manchester United are believed to be in advanced negotiations with PSV for a potential deal as they want to determine the size of the finances involved in the move. Gakpo’s World Cup exploits would definitely add a premium on his proposed price, and Manchester United would be looking for a January move irrespective of his value.

The club has also initiated discussions with Gakpo’s entourage, and agreeing on personal terms would not be a problem it seems. The 23-year-old will get a reasonable wage hike should he join Manchester United. And the forward even admitted he had chats with Erik ten Hag as he was pretty keen to join the Premier League giants.

His dream could finally be fulfilled as Manchester United are in pole position to secure his services. Ten Hag has been looking for a different kind of profile as he requested a proper number nine to resolve his goal crisis.

But Gakpo’s goalscoring ability might have altered his thinking as he is now pushing for a deal. Manchester United failed with a £25 million bid for the player in the summer and went on to bring in Antony from Ajax.

The Red Devils are aware of the fact they lost a golden opportunity to seal the deal and might have to double the amount in an attempt to pursue his signature. And Manchester United are confident of landing the Dutchman in a £50 million+ deal.

The youngster has already hit three goals, and he is a leading contender for the World Cup Golden Boot. Arsenal have also been linked with the player, and the Gunners might revisit their interest in January.

The table toppers are in serious need of additional bodies, and Mikel Arteta could be involved in some serious bidding war. Despite Manchester United’s recent difficulties on and off the pitch, they still remain an exciting prospect for players all around the world.
