Christian Pulisic might consider re-joining Borussia Dortmund as the Chelsea winger has not had much impact at Stamford Bridge.
According to Bild, Chelsea forward Christian Pulisic will be keen to don the Borussia Dortmund jersey again. The American attacker has fallen out of favour, and Chelsea might opt to cash in on him.
Pulisic joined Borussia Dortmund’s youth system in 2015, and it did not take very long for him to establish his authority for the senior side. He emerged as a pivotal player for the Bundesliga giants until Chelsea came calling for him in 2019.
His massive transfer fee put enormous pressure on him, and he has not really marked his presence at the club as he has rarely risen to the occasion. While Pulisic lifted the UEFA Champions League and FIFA Club World Cup, that has not improved his game time in West London.
Chelsea will undergo a rapid overhaul next summer and a number of existing players could be given the sack. The 24-year-old still has a lot to ponder, and Dortmund and Chelsea could reach a consensus regarding his transfer fee.
A January transfer has been mooted, but that seems unlikely given the finances involved in the deal. Pulisic is one of the best-paid players in Chelsea, and he might have to take a hefty pay cut to seal a return to the Bundesliga.
The USMNT international is still heralded pretty high across the football circuit, and his capabilities can never be questioned. He needs to be more consistent and sharper. And given his tender age, he is bound to improve in the near future. But that might be away from Stamford Bridge, with Chelsea ready to cash in on him.
Chelsea have not been at their best this term, but Pulisic has not been given enough chances to prove his worth. Neither Thomas Tuchel now Graham Potter has been entirely convinced of his potential, and perhaps, the time has come to bid adieu to the Premier League.
Pulisic used to be one of the fierce goal-scorers during his time in the Bundesliga, and Dortmund would be hoping he still has the urge left in him. But with several Premier League clubs keen on signing him as well, it will be interesting to see where the Chelsea attacker lands next year.
