Juventus are plotting a move for Chelsea ace Edouard Mendy who has lost his position at Stamford Bridge and could be interested in a move.

As relayed by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Juventus will target Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy as they will aim to rebuild their squad. Mendy has fallen in the pecking order, and the Blues might decide to cash on him.

Kepa Arizzabalaga’s inconsistencies between the sticks forced Chelsea to spend the big bucks and bring in Edouard Mendy from Rennes. The Senegalese international played a pivotal role as Chelsea romped their way to the UEFA Champions League title and also lifted the Club World Cup.

But Thomas Tuchel’s departure has proven to be a major interruption in his career at Stamford Bridge. That is because current Chelsea manager Graham Potter has mostly preferred Kepa between the sticks.

Mendy has also been engaged in a contract stand-off with the west Londoners as he wants to be at par with his Spanish teammate in terms of salary. But so far, Chelsea have refused to budge on his demands. And recent reports have claimed that the Blues are considering selling him.

Juventus are aware of the current situation and will try to capitalise on this opportunity to steal a move for the player. The Serie A heavyweights have shrugged off an awful start to their season and have been on a steady domestic run.

Wojciech Szczesny has been in fine form for both his club and country, and the Bianconeri might not rush towards hurrying a decision. The Polish goalkeeper played a massive part against Argentina as Poland reserved a place in the knockout stages of the FIFA World Cup 2022.

His imminent position is not in danger, but Juventus will consider an upgrade over him. And given Mendy’s stupendous form before falling down the pecking order at Chelsea, the Serie A giants should not be worried about Szczesny’s potential successor.

Chelsea will be building their squad from the scratch next summer, and Potter has already reiterated his demand of having a new goalkeeper at his disposal. Neither Kepa nor Mendy is suited to his philosophy, and the Blues will be looking for a new face between their sticks.

Mendy’s relatively longer contract could fetch a high fee. But Juventus will negotiate a price as they will be dipping into the transfer market to address their other concerns too. Meanwhile, the Senegalese star himself is considering his Chelsea future. So a move to Serie A might be on the cards.
