Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic is reportedly considering his long-term future at the west London club.

According to a report from Give Me Sport, Mateo Kovacic is unsure about signing a new deal at Chelsea. And the representatives of the 26-year-old Croatian international are currently exploring other options.

The Croatian midfielder is out of contract in the summer of 2024, and Chelsea could be under pressure to sell him at the end of the season, if he refuses to sign an extension. The report from GMS claims that Chelsea were keen on tying him down to a new contract before the World Cup, but that has not happened. It will be interesting to see if Kovacic is ready to move on in the near future.

Simon Phillips told GMS, Chelsea wanted to get him signed before the World Cup, but that didn’t happen. At the moment, Kovacic and his people are exploring other options. They’re not 100% sure if they want to extend with Chelsea.”

The Croatian international has been a key player for Chelsea since joining the club from Real Madrid, and his departure will come as a massive blow to the Blues. Chelsea are already fretting losing N’Golo Kante, a target for Juventus, and Jorginho at the end of the season when their contracts expire.

The Premier League giants have not been able to agree on a contract extension with either player. And it seems that they could lose Kovacic at the end of next season now. Graham Potter has a massive challenge ahead of him as he will have to replace his entire midfield in the space of 12 months.

It will be interesting to see if the Blues can convince Kovacic to commit his long-term future to the club and prove to him that Stamford Bridge is the ideal place for him to achieve his ambitions. Chelsea have shown significant ambition in the transfer market since the takeover, and new owner Todd Boehly is expected to bankroll another impressive transfer window at the end of this season.

It remains to be seen whether the signings can convince the player to sign a new deal with the Blues in the coming months. Kovacic is currently away on World Cup duty with Croatia, and he will be hoping to help his country progress to the knockout rounds.

Apart from the central midfielders, Chelsea will have to bring in new wingers at the end of the season as well. They are lacking in creativity and goals from the midfield, and it will be interesting to see if Graham Potter can bring in the right replacements.
