Juventus battle Manchester United for Cody Gakpo

Juventus are battling Manchester United for the transfer of PSV Eindhoven winger Cody Gakpo in the winter transfer window.

As per Calciomercatoweb, Juventus will be pressing for a move for Cody Gakpo, who also tops the list of Manchester United’s transfer targets. Gakpo has proven his brilliance in his first major World Cup with two goals for the Netherlands, and he will be the subject of massive transfer interest in January.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure from Manchester United has left a massive void to fill. And Erik ten Hag has a major role to play here as he will be spoilt for choices while hunting for a serious goal poacher.

Despite operating mostly from the left wing, Gakpo has that killer instinct for goals. And ten Hag had a very clear view of it during his stay in the Eredivisie at Ajax.

Manchester United were heavily linked with the player in the summer. But PSV Eindhoven’s reluctance for a move forced them to alternate their transfer plans, as they brought in Antony from Ajax.

But Manchester United’s attacking areas could be seen as an area of improvement as except for Marcus Rashford no other forwards have really jumped into the scene with much vigour. And recent reports have claimed that the Red Devils have an agreement in principle with the versatile attacker.

Juventus have managed to stabilise their current situation and have reduced the gap with the top two in Serie A. Massimiliano Allegri has turned the tide in his favour, but the Italian manager would need some major refurnishing in the January transfer window.

Reinforcing their front three would be an area of concern, and Gakpo is being seen as a possibility. The 23-year-old has lit up the Dutch top flight with goal after goal, and he would be certain to touch greater heights in the near future.

Juventus have also been monitoring the situation of AC Milan winger Rafael Leao, who has so far refused to commit to putting pen to paper to a fresh deal. PSV are dealing with financial issues. And should a good offer arrive, they will be able to seize the opportunity with both hands. Manchester United are lining up a possible move in January, and it remains to be seen whether Juventus can match their financial might.
