Serie A giants AS Roma are reportedly interested in signing out-of-favour Real Madrid defender Alvaro Odriozola in January.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Alvaro Odriozola has popped up on the radar of AS Roma. The Serie A giants want to sign the out-of-favour Real Madrid defender in the January transfer window. The Spaniard is also a target for Juventus.

Alvaro Odriozola has seen his progress come to a grinding halt since joining Real Madrid from Real Sociedad. The Spanish defender was once one of the most promising young right-backs in Spain. But he has failed to take his career to the next level in the last four and a half years, barely managing to feature for Real Madrid.

The 26-year-old is yet to turn out for Real Madrid this season and does not feature in Carlo Ancelotti’s plans. With a makeshift right-back like Lucas Vazquez ahead of him in the pecking order, the player needs to leave Real Madrid to resurrect his career. And Odriozola’s next destination seems to be Serie A.

Odriozola has had one fruitful stint in Serie A with Fiorentina in the 2021/22 season. And La Viola showed interest in him in the summer transfer window before a move failed to materialise. The Spanish defender has also emerged on the radar of Juventus. But AS Roma might be leading the race to sign him from Real Madrid.

AS Roma will likely part ways with Rick Karsdorp in the January transfer window, with the Dutch defender falling out with Jose Mourinho. And the Roma manager has identified Odriozola as a viable option to replace Karsdorp. So the Giallorossi will pursue the Real Madrid defender this January over a cut-price move.

Hector Bellerin is another candidate on AS Roma’s radar. But the Serie A giants seem to be keen on signing Odriozola instead of the Barcelona right-back. And according to Defensa Central, they are ahead of Italian rival Juventus in the race to land the 26-year-old from Real Madrid.

It will be interesting to see if Juventus can do anything to claw back in the chase for Odriozola. For now, the Spanish defender seems destined to return to Serie A when he ends his frustrating stint with Real Madrid.
