Juventus are reportedly interested in signing Takehiro Tomiyasu next summer as they plan further changes to their backline.

According to Calciomercatoweb, Juventus are eyeing a move for Arsenal defender Takehiro Tomiyasu next summer. The Bianconeri are targeting further changes to their backline. The versatile defender, however, will be hard to get considering his importance under Mikel Arteta.

Arsenal’s decision to sign Takehiro Tomiyasu was thoroughly questioned in the media by several pundits. But the Japanese defender silenced those critics after solid displays under Mikel Arteta at right-back.

The Gunners felt his absence in the second part of the season when he got sidelined for a considerable period with calf injuries. He has proven his fitness since the start of this season and has regularly featured for the table-topping Arsenal.

Tomiyasu is a unique defender who can play in all four positions of the backline with equal measure. Arteta preferred him at right-back last season while using him on the left this term. The Spaniard is yet to test the versatile defender in the centre, but there are no doubts about his abilities.

Juventus are reportedly tracking the 24-year-old, with the view of approaching Arsenal over a move next summer. The Serie A giants are keen to make further changes to their backline and have identified Tomiyasyu as a potential target. They have undergone plenty of refreshing but need more players to shore up the defence.

The Bianconeri are chasing several other names in the market and could begin their revamp in January. Arsenal and Juventus are chasing Ivan Ndicka over a bargain deal in January. Such is the need for central defenders for both teams, especially the Serie A giants.

Juventus also retain an interest in Gabriel Magalhaes, another of Arsenal’s star performers under Arteta. But with the Brazilian signing a new deal recently, he is unlikely to be available at any price. That could also have been the reason for the Serie A giants to target Tomiyasu.

The versatile Arsenal defender may prove a hard man to get for the resurgent Serie A giants. Arteta is looking to build his team and strengthen them in every department. Hence, it is not easy to envisage the Spaniard sanctioning Tomiyasu’s sale, considering he remains an important part of the system.

Why did they sign him when he was still in Seria A? I can’t see Arsenal releasing him next summer
