Chelsea are considering a move for Illan Meslier, and the Leeds United goalkeeper could become the long-term custodian at Stamford Bridge.

According to Simon Phillips, Chelsea have Illan Meslier on their radar as they ponder signing a new goalkeeper next summer. The future of Edouard Mendy is uncertain at Stamford Bridge, while Kepa Arrizabalaga is yet to prove his complete authority between the sticks.

Chelsea could look for another goalkeeper next summer as Todd Boehly continues to build an exciting squad. Graham Potter remains unconvinced by his current options, although he has leaned more towards Kepa Arrizabalaga since succeeding Thomas Tuchel at the helm.

Kepa, who remains the most expensive goalkeeper of all time, was sidelined under Tuchel, who preferred Edouard Mendy. The Senegal international was key in Chelsea’s UEFA Champions League triumph under the former Chelsea boss, but things have changed under Potter.

Reinstating Kepa was one of Potter’s first decisions after taking over, and the former Brighton & Hove boss has maintained the stance. In the last few league games, Mendy retained his position due to an injury to the Spaniard, who should be back starting once the World Cup concludes.

However, there are doubts over Mendy’s long-term future, with the Senegalese goalkeeper considering an exit in January. Moreover, Kepa is yet to fully convince the Chelsea hierarchy of his long-term prospects, with suggestions of a sale in the summer still active.

Chelsea have Leeds United’s 22-year-old goalkeeper Illan Meslier in their sights. Since joining the Premier League club, the Frenchman has been a colossal figure at Elland Road. He has proved more than efficient in many aspects of being a goalkeeper, and naturally, there is plenty of interest from rival English clubs.

Tottenham are also in the race to sign Meslier, as they view him as the long-term successor to Hugo Lloris. The north Londoners could prove a competitor for Chelsea in their bid to sign the 22-year-old goalkeeper.

Leeds United hold the upper hand with Meslier, who has a contract until 2026. The Premier League side will demand a significant fee for the 22-year-old Frenchman, who might prefer to take the next steps in his career. Whether Chelsea can prise him away remains the question. But Stamford Bridge could be an attractive destination for any top player.
