Barcelona will reportedly demand €15 million to part ways with wantaway Dutch attacker Memphis Depay in the January transfer window.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Barcelona will not let Memphis Depay leave as a free agent in the January transfer window. The Catalan giants want to recoup €15 million from the Dutchman’s sale, with Sevilla interested in him.
Memphis Depay seems to be on his last legs as a Barcelona player. The 28-year-old had a decent debut season with the Blaugrana, ending 2021/22 as their joint-top scorer. But he is now a bit-part player for Barcelona following the arrivals of Raphinha and Robert Lewandowski.
The Dutch star has managed only 131 minutes of game time across three appearances. An untimely hamstring injury did not help Depay’s cause either, as he missed nearly two months of action heading into the 2022 FIFA World Cup. The player is yet to start a game for the Netherlands in Qatar.
In the meantime, Depay is keen on leaving Barcelona in the January transfer window. The former Manchester United forward wants to resurrect his career and will look to do so this winter. Recent reports even claimed that the Dutchman would look to secure a free transfer away from Spotify Camp Nou to get a handsome transfer bonus.
But Barcelona will not grant Depay a free transfer in January. The report by Fichajes claims that the Blaugrana will look to recoup €15 million by selling the 28-year-old at the turn of the year. But it is unclear if the player’s suitors will be open to shelling out €15 million to secure his services.
Depay is a target for Sevilla, who will look to get the campaign back on track after a horrendous first half of the 2022/23 season. The Andalusian giants are mired in a surprise relegation battle, and the wantaway Barcelona star has the ability to transform their fortunes in the second half of the ongoing term.
Some of his other suitors hail from the Premier League. So it will be interesting to see if Barcelona will be able to recoup €15 million from Depay’s sale in the January transfer window.
