Arsenal could submit a second bid after the World Cup group stages as they step up their attempts to sign key midfield target Danilo.

According to Jorge Nicola, Arsenal are set to submit a new bid to sign key target Danilo. Palmeiras have stood firm despite heavy interest from the Gunners, but they might have no choice but to let the player go if the pressure increases.

Arsenal are not giving up on the Danilo chase anytime soon, with interest from the north Londoners consistently increasing. The Palmeiras midfielder has remained on their shortlist since last January, but the north Londoners have yet to find an agreement with the Brazilian side.

The 21-year-old midfielder has not publicly stated his desire to sign for the Gunners. But widespread reports in the Brazilian media tend to link Arsenal with Danilo. Mikel Arteta and Edu Gaspar want to sign the defensive midfielder and solve a position that needs strengthening.

Arsenal reportedly submitted a bid around early September, but Palmeiras were uninterested in losing the player in light of their participation in the Copa Libertadores. However, the January transfer window might prove the right time for the Gunners to make another offer.

As per Jorge Nicola, Arsenal could step up their interest and make another bid for the 21-year-old midfielder. He suggests a new offer could materialise after the World Cup group stages. The reason behind the particular timing of the proposal remains unclear but indeed points towards the Gunners pushing ahead for Danilo.

Other clubs are keen on the 21-year-old midfielder, but Arsenal seem like the front-runners. Arteta sought a midfield cover for Thomas Partey late in the transfer window. They did bid for Douglas Luiz late on deadline day, but that may have come after Palmeiras rejected an offer for Danilo.

Arsenal have suffered in the past with Partey’s injury-related absence and will need a player to cover for him in the second part of the season. Arteta will hope to add quality to his squad and mount a sustained challenge for the Premier League title.

The second bid could be around the region of €25 million, which is similar to their earlier offer. Danilo might move on and join Arsenal to aid his development into a future star. Arteta will also remain keen to bring in a player and develop him into the mould of a defensive midfielder he needs for the team’s future.
