Chelsea set to initiate discussions with Leandro Trossard

Chelsea are reportedly ready to open talks with Belgian wide man Leandro Trossard, valued at £25 million by Brighton & Hove Albion.

According to a report from Football Insider, Chelsea are set to hold preliminary talks to sign the 27-year-old Belgian international Leandro Trossard from Brighton & Hove Albion. The Seagulls value their star wide man at £25 million.

The attacker has been in impressive form this season, and he has seven goals and three assists to his name in the Premier League. Chelsea could definitely use attacking reinforcements and Trossard would be a quality acquisition.

The Belgian wide man is at the peak of his powers right now, and he could make an immediate impact at Stamford Bridge. Trossard is well settled in the Premier League and therefore he might not need an adaptation period upon his move to Chelsea.

Furthermore, the player has played under Graham Potter during their time together at Brighton, and he will know all about the Chelsea manager’s philosophy and tactical set-up. The Blues have struggled in the final third this season with players like Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Kai Havertz, and Raheem Sterling failing to score on a consistent basis.

Chelsea must look to improve their attacking options if they want to challenge for major trophies like the Premier League title and the Champions League. Trossard will be out of contract at the end of the season and the Blues will look to snap him up on a free transfer. The west Londoners recently established contact for him.

Alternatively, Chelsea could look to sign him for a nominal price (£25 million) in January as well. But the report from Football Insider claims that Brighton are not willing to sell the player midway through the season. It remains to be seen whether the Blues can convince Brighton to part with their prized asset in January.

Chelsea are currently battling for a place in the top four and will need to bring in a couple of quality reinforcements when the transfer window opens in January. Apart from their attack, Chelsea should look to improve their midfield as well.

Key players like Jorginho and N’Golo Kante will be out of contract in the summer. So it remains to be seen whether Graham Potter can bring in the necessary replacements to stabilise the Chelsea squad.
